Sky have provided a boost for hundreds of graduates in the North of England, after unveiling a number of new roles that are up for grabs.
The telecommunications firm is expanding its digital education programmes in Leeds and London, offering exciting prospects to many new graduates.
Building one of the largest digital communities
A total of 400 jobs are set to be formed at a new Software Engineering Academy – which is based at Allied London’s Leeds Dock development – where new graduates will concentrate on creating innovative digital applications for Sky.
Leeds, which is already home to many operations for Sky, will become a “world class” tech centre in northern England, according to the broadcaster.
Jeremy Darroch, Sky Group Chief Executive, said that one of the largest digital communities in the UK will be built with the generous investment from Sky.
The northern city will hold the second Software Engineering Academy – the first of which opened in London in 2011 – where 24 graduate roles will be on offer along with eight apprenticeships every year.
Offering graduates hands on experience
Successful graduates will be offered on-the-job training along with hands-on experience and a number of opportunities to create new software across Sky platforms.
Mr Darroch added that the firm is looking forward to bringing hundreds of new jobs into the city and giving young professionals the chance to build on their skills and help to shape the digital future of Britain.
The Government is also backing the project, with Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Business, Skills and Innovation, describing it as great news for the digital economy. He added it will further encourage the creation of the Northern Powerhouse, which will “undoubtedly help cement Leeds as a leading technology cluster”.
