Such actions can have a more positive effect on employees than pay rises and bonuses as it helps to boost confidence in the long term. Treating employees with dignity and respect represents the first step to creating a happy and motivated workforce.
Building trust with employees
Another way to motivate employees is to show them that you trust them. You can do this by asking them to step out of their comfort zone or by allowing them to work from home every now and then. Alternatively, you could opt for a different approach such as that taken by Virgin supremo Richard Branson.
Last year he announced that his workforce – which is around 65,000 people strong – can take leave from their roles whenever they want provided that it doesn’t negatively impact upon the business. This gives employees flexibility alongside responsibility relating to when to actually take time off. It represents just one way to show your employees you care, as by giving them the respect they deserve, they will hopefully give it back.
