Awards-620

Discovery Graduates was shortlisted in the final of the ‘Best New Provider of Work Experience’ category in the National Undergraduate Employability Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence in undergraduate employability and Discovery Graduates were shortlisted alongside IMI Precision Engineering, PCMS Group and Vodafone Group YouView. This particular category promotes the introduction of well designed, effective work experience opportunities or a formalised undergraduate scheme for students within a company in the last three years.

Discovery Graduates was recognised for its undergraduate placements – the thoroughness of the offer and the investment made in developing young talent – offering exceptional insight into the commercial world.

Undergraduates are based in the Operations Team – a department chosen for the diversity of experience it offers and the breadth of skills required to achieve success. Working as a Recruitment Project Consultant, undergraduates develop strong negotiation and rapport building skills, experience giving feedback and working to targets and deadlines. They are set financial and performance targets – giving them real-life experiences of the working world.

Discovery recognises that there is huge benefit of having undergraduates working in the business – not least that they can provide ‘real time’ insight into the lifestyle, behaviours and career searching habits of our target audience: students and graduates.

Discovery’s first undergraduate placement student, Jade Finlay, was also able to take a four week international business trip to Canada and the US and had the chance to gain experience in market research, sales, events, management and business networking.

Jade said that her year-long placement with Discovery Graduates was “extraordinary”. She continued, “I was exposed to so many opportunities and experiences that have shaped the career path I have now taken. Without working with Discovery Graduates I can whole-heartedly say that I wouldn’t have chosen the industry I am now working in.”

Discovery Graduates plan to hire more placement students for the 2016-17 period, offering excellent workplace experience for ambitious, driven undergraduates.
