Mentoring

This month we’re setting you a challenge (and no it’s not a ‘who can eat the most mince pies’ sort of challenge!)

Feedback. The very word itself can prompt feelings of fear! It’s not uncommon for that alarm in our brain to start sounding when someone mentions that they have some feedback for us. It’s not uncommon because so often the feedback is delivered so badly!

Whilst we’d encourage that feedback needs to hold a significant place in your days/weeks/months throughout the year, December is naturally a good time to reflect on the past 12 months. This time of year is a great opportunity to both give and receive some constructive feedback.

So, the challenge…

Find a willing colleague and each write down three things you appreciate about one another, and three things you appreciate less about one another.

Then, ask your colleague to give you some feedback on one thing from each list and return the favour for your colleague.

Giving/receiving feedback can feel uncomfortable and difficult. Give this challenge a go and give yourself the chance to practice your technique and become more comfortable in the moment. Before you do, have a read of our Golden Rules of Feedback.

I genuinely believe that without feedback, we struggle to grow – as individuals, as teams, as businesses. So take the opportunity to practice when you can!

Let us know how you get on! @DiscoveryPerf
